How to find the Civic Centre Banqueting Suite

By Public Transport 

The nearest Metro Station is the Haymarket Metro Station.  When leaving the station via the Northumberland Street turn left and walk towards the main road and traffic signals.  Directly across the road is St Thomas Church and grounds.  Walking past the church through the park area directly ahead you will see a 1960’s building and on the tower is sea horses heads this is the Civic Centre building.  The Civic Centre has three entrances and directions to the Banqueting Suites can be given by our reception staff.

By Bus

The Civic Centre is centrally located within Newcastle City Centre and has many busses available for more information visit Stagecoach

The Quayside Bus

There are Quayside busses that run frequently connecting the Quayside to the Civic Centre for more information visit The Quay link bus.

By Car

For Satellite Navigation (NE99 1)

The main motorway in to Newcastle from the A1 is the A167.  On approaching the mini round about at Sandyford turn left and the Civic Centre Building is well sign posted from there.  The large 10 floor building will now be visible to you.  The Civic Centre car park is open to the public and a charge of £1.00 per hour applies.  The Banqueting Suite can be accessed via the main entrance a glass door area.  There is a main reception desk and all visitors are asked to obtain directions from the reception staff.

  • Access to this car park is off Sandyford Road.  This is a pay and display car park, free to blue badge holders.

  • The route from the car park to the entrance is accessible to a wheelchair with assistance.
  • The patron does not have to cross a road.
  • Customers accessing the Banqueting and committee rooms Areas if arriving by car can gain acess from the main desk entrance (main back car park).
  • Accessibility to all floors can be obtained here via the lower ground lift to the right hand side of the glass house entrance.

First Floor

Committee Rooms on the first floor Pandon Room, Council Chamber, Collingwood Room, Stephenson Room, Armstrong Room, Bewick Room, Dobson Room, Swan Room, Parsons Room, Grainger Room.  All committee rooms are clearly indicated with accessible signs and braille.  All rooms have bright lighting installed and natural light with the exception of the Council Chamber.

Second Floor

Committee Rooms on the Second floor Carliol Room, Leazes A Room, Leases B Room, Sandhill Room, Heber Room, Plummer Room.  All committee rooms are clearly indicated with accessible signs and braile.  All rooms have bright lighting installed and natural light.

Accessibility from the Grand Entrance

If there is a dinner or event taking place the Grand Entrance Door will be manned.  Access is to the right of the Grand Entrance via a ramp beside the River Tyne God Sculpture. The doors at the Hutton Screen lead in to the Grand Entrance and accessible lifts and ramps are available to all areas.

Accessibility from the Registrars Entrance

There is an accessible ramp and access to the registrars is on the right hand side.  Access to first floor committee rooms can only be obtained if you take the lift to the second floor and the Lord Mayors lift to the first floor.

Accessibile toilets within the Banqueting Areas

  • There are accessible toilets and changing room facilities/ powder room both male and female, just off the Grand Entrance lower ground floor accessible lifts are available.
  • First Floor Committee Rooms there are accessible, toilets available both male and female, first floor committee corridors.
  • Second Floor accessible toilets, both male and female, are available on the second floor opposite the lifts.
  • Loop Systems can be requested for the committee rooms via the diary coordinators
  • The Council Chamber has a loop system available at all times

Outside Access from  the  Sandyford Entrance

  • There is not level access to the service.
  • The main doors open automatically.
  • The doors are double width.
  • The door opening is 180cm (5ft 10in) wide.
